'Heart of Monty' Values

Our 'Heart of Monty' Values are the characteristics and attitudes that we, here at Montgomery Primary School, believe are of utmost importance in the way we live and work. These core values are the guiding principles that dictate how we expect all our staff and pupils to behave, and how we want our pupils to approach their learning.

The HoM Values are threaded throughout our teaching and learning in school. They also form the basis of our whole-school behaviour and reward system. Pupils are encouraged to show these values in everything they do, both in and outside the classroom; in lessons, at playtimes, in clubs and everywhere else in their school lives and in the wider community and world.

The Values

Determination

Determination is never giving up, even when things are challenging! A determined person decides to do something, and doesn't stop until they have finished it. If you don't succeed straight away, you can always learn and improve. You only fail if you give up!

I can show DETERMINATION by:

•  Never giving up on myself or others

•  Always trying my best no matter what I am doing

•  Trying again if something goes wrong

Honesty

Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do. It means that others can rely on you because you have integrity. If you are honest, others will trust you as honesty is the basis of trusting relationships.

I can show HONESTY by:

•  Always telling the truth

•  Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching

•  Never cheating or lying

•  Admitting when you are wrong

Passion

Passion is a strong feeling or intense desire for something that you tend to like and enjoy. Passion is what drives you to try something and practice your skills over and over again to become better and make progress. If enthusiasm and passion are present, you are more likely to be resilient and achieve your personal best.

I can show PASSION by:

•  Enjoying the activity/ challenge

•  Trying my best in anything I do

•  Being positive and enthusiastic about my learning

Respect

Respect is treating other people and things, the way that you would like to be treated. It is a feeling of caring for something's well-being and accepting somebody for who they are, even if they are different from you, or you don't agree with them.

I can show RESPECT by:

•  Being polite and using good manners

•  Following the rules, expectations and instructions

•  Treating others how you would like to be treated

•  Looking after the school and the environment

Self-Belief

Self-Belief is feeling proud of what you can do. It is seeing and appreciating the good things about yourself and believing you can do something, even if it is hard or you don't do well at first. Self-Belief means showing respect in the way you treat yourself and having faith in your abilities, even if you make mistakes.

I can show SELF-BELIEF by:

•  Showing courage to have a go and try new things

•  Challenging yourself and setting targets

•  Being confident in your abilities and value

Teamwork

Teamwork is working respectfully and effectively with others. It means contributing to a group task and doing your bit to achieve team targets and reach the end goal.

I can show TEAMWORK by:

•  Being kind to others

•  Including everyone, letting everyone have a go and sharing with others

•  Supporting others, encouraging them and celebrating their successes

Reward System

We want to encourage our pupils to show these values in everything they do, everyday. Our whole-school reward system aims to identify when pupils go above and beyond to make good choices and apply these values in the way they act and approach their learning.

Every pupil, from Foundation to Year 6, has an avatar set up on the online programme 'ClassDojo'. This programme allows us to award  points to pupils when they exceed expectation in a range of tasks. Reward points are awarded for showing one of our 6 HoM values.

Awards

Our pupils achieve recognition for meeting milestones within the number of reward points they receive. When pupils achieve an award, they will be recognised in a whole-school assembly and their name will be shared in our newsletter. There are 5 steps in our reward system:

  1. Certificate- The first milestone for pupils is to receive their 'Heart of Monty' certificate
  2. Bronze Badge- The second milestone is for pupils to receive their Bronze Heart Badge, which can be worn on their uniform or bag
  3. Silver Badge- The third milestone is for pupils to receive their Silver Heart Badge, which can be worn on their uniform or bag
  4. Gold Badge- The fourth milestone is for pupils to receive their Gold Heart Badge, which can be worn on their uniform or bag
  5. Rainbow Badge- The final milestone is to receive the Rainbow Heart Badge. This prestigious award is given to only one pupil per class at the end of the academic year

Personal Best

Our 'Heart of Monty' values aim to inspire everyone to achieve their 'Personal Best' in everything they do. Our pupils make us proud every day, and we love to see them believe and achieve in all aspects of school life.
